Hundreds of Nigerian citizens who were evacuated from South Africa have recounted their experiences of xenophobic attacks and harassment that compelled them to leave the country. Upon their arrival at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos, the returnees described facing intimidation and violence, which disrupted their lives and businesses. The evacuation was facilitated by the Nigerian government in response to escalating anti-immigration sentiments in South Africa. The returnees expressed their distress over the treatment they received during their time abroad.
