The federal government of Nigeria has formalized an agreement with Ethiopia to repatriate over 100 Nigerian inmates currently serving their sentences in Ethiopian prisons. The agreement was signed by Lateef Fagbemi, the attorney general of the federation and minister of justice, alongside Hanna Arayaselassie, the Ethiopian minister of justice, during a ceremony attended by senior officials from both nations. Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, the Nigerian minister of foreign affairs, emphasized the importance of this arrangement in supporting the rehabilitation and reintegration of offenders, highlighting the role of family and cultural connections. The minister noted that some inmates have faced severe health challenges, with reports of at least four deaths, and reassured the inmates of the Nigerian government's commitment to their welfare and protection while abroad.
