Prof. Sam Amadi, the former chairman of the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission, has emphasized the right of all Nigerians, including the Igbo ethnic group, to contest for political positions in any part of the country, including Lagos. He articulated that citizenship in Nigeria guarantees equal rights for all individuals, irrespective of their ethnic backgrounds, and cautioned against any notion that seeks to limit political aspirations based on ethnicity. Amadi highlighted the importance of distinguishing between cultural rights and legal rights, asserting that while non-indigenes may not claim traditional titles, they retain full political and civic rights. He encouraged young Igbos to pursue their political ambitions without fear of discrimination, advocating for a sense of belonging and unity among all Nigerians.
