The 2026 World Cup, currently underway in the United States, Canada, and Mexico, marks the fourth day of competition among a record 48 participating nations. Notably absent from this prestigious tournament is Nigeria, which also failed to qualify for the previous edition held in Qatar in 2022. Historically, Nigeria has participated in the World Cup six times since its inception in 1930, but has not progressed beyond the round of 16 on two occasions. In contrast, other African nations such as Cameroon, Senegal, and Morocco have achieved greater success, with Cameroon and Senegal reaching the quarter-finals in earlier tournaments and Morocco advancing to the semi-finals in 2022.
