The Oyo State Government has officially designated Tuesday, June 16, 2026, as a public holiday to celebrate the commencement of the Islamic calendar year, known as Hijrah 1448AH. This announcement was made through a statement by the Commissioner for Information, Prince Dotun Oyelade, who highlighted the historical significance of the Hijrah, which marks Prophet Muhammad’s migration from Mecca to Medina in 622AD. The government’s decision aims to honor the Muslim community and promote a spirit of reflection and prayer among residents.
