Atiku Abubakar's spokesman, Paul Ibe, issued a statement in response to a recent court ruling regarding the deregistration of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and other political parties. Ibe characterized the ruling by Justice Peter Lifu as an attempt by the current administration to undermine opposition parties and establish a de facto one-party state, labeling the judgment as "judicial rascality." He referenced a directive from the Court of Appeal, which ordered Justice Lifu to halt any further action on the matter pending the outcome of an appeal scheduled for October 27, 2026. Ibe expressed concern that the government's actions reflect a desperate strategy to influence the upcoming 2027 elections and threaten the democratic principles established in Nigeria.
