The International Committee of the Red Cross has reported a worsening water crisis in Gaza, exacerbated by the ongoing impacts of armed conflict and the onset of summer. Access to clean water remains severely limited, with seawater and wastewater contaminating available sources, and damaged infrastructure forcing residents to rely on water trucks. Many families, such as that of Hanadi Al Aff, face daily struggles to secure sufficient water for basic needs, often prioritizing drinking and cooking over hygiene. The Coastal Municipal Water Utility, supported by the ICRC, is working to maintain and rehabilitate desalination plants, which are critical for providing potable water, yet challenges such as electricity shortages and infrastructure damage hinder their efforts, leaving many in Gaza with less than the minimum required for survival.
