Warri-Itakpe Train Accident: NRC Confirms Recovery, Passengers Discharged

The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) has confirmed that all passengers injured in the June 8 Warri–Itakpe train accident have received treatment and have been discharged from medical facilities. The incident, which occurred near the Goodluck Jonathan Railway Station in Agbor, Delta State, involved the derailment of four coaches while the train was en route to Ujevwu, Warri, resulting in five fatalities and injuries to several passengers. NRC Managing Director, Dr. Kayode Opeifa, reported that one staff member remains hospitalized with serious injuries, while the corporation has established a medical and victim support committee to assist survivors and the families of the deceased. Additionally, NRC engineers have commenced restoration of the rail track and are committed to collaborating with authorities to enhance safety measures in railway operations.
