The UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) has released its Gender Equality Annual Report for 2025, highlighting significant advancements in gender equality aligned with the UN Gender Equality Acceleration Plan (GEAP) and UN-SWAP 3.0. Since the launch of the GEAP in 2024, the organization has made notable progress, including the introduction of the Gender Equality Clarion Call and achieving historic gender parity at professional and higher levels. However, the report identifies ongoing challenges, such as limited protection for women human rights defenders and underrepresentation of women in senior leadership roles. To address these issues, UNHCR has developed a Gender Equality Implementation Plan for 2026–2030, focusing on gender-responsive leadership, accountability, resource allocation, and stakeholder engagement, supported by a dedicated Gender Equality Steering Committee and a cross-organizational task team.
