Justice Mahmud Abdulgafar of the Kwara State High Court in Ilorin has scheduled the continuation of the trial of former Kwara State Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed and his Finance Commissioner, Ademola Banu, for July 27, 2026. This decision was made during proceedings on June 17, 2026, following a request from Banu's counsel, Ibn Mahmud, citing the lead defence counsel's indisposition. The defendants are facing prosecution by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for the alleged misappropriation of N5.78 billion from the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB). During the trial, EFCC Assistant Commander Stanley Ujilibo testified that Ahmed approved a loan request from SUBEB funds to pay salaries, which he stated was contrary to the intended use of those funds.
