In response to the Ebola outbreak declared on September 4, 2025, in the Kasai Province of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, health authorities prioritized building community trust as a fundamental aspect of their strategy. The Ministry of Health, with assistance from the World Health Organization (WHO) and other partners, implemented a Community Protection approach that integrated community engagement into all facets of the outbreak response, including disease surveillance, vaccination, and treatment. Local leaders and community members were actively involved in the response, facilitating communication and addressing public concerns, which helped to stabilize communities and encourage early care-seeking. This comprehensive approach, validated by a recent study, underscored the importance of community trust in enhancing the effectiveness of health emergency responses and ensuring that public health measures are accepted and implemented successfully.
