The Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, announced on Thursday in Lagos that the establishment of a national carrier for Nigeria has been dismissed, citing concerns over the viability of government-owned airlines operating under bureaucratic and political constraints. This statement was made during the unveiling ceremony of two newly acquired Boeing 737-800 Next Generation (NG) aircraft by United Nigeria Airlines. Keyamo emphasized that the focus should be on enhancing existing private sector airlines rather than investing in a national carrier, which he described as a potential waste of resources.
