The Federal Government has urged media professionals to exercise caution in their reporting to prevent the spread of misinformation, which it claims poses a threat to national security. During the National Security Summit organized by the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) in partnership with the Department of State Services, Minister of Information and National Orientation, Alhaji Mohammed Idris, emphasized the importance of verifying information before dissemination. He stated that the amplification of unverified claims can undermine efforts to maintain security within the nation. The government reiterated its commitment to fostering a responsible media environment that prioritizes accurate reporting.
