The Ukraine Food Security and Livelihoods Cluster has issued a Rural Crisis Appeal highlighting the urgent challenges faced by livestock-dependent households amid ongoing conflict and economic instability. Rising fodder costs and disrupted market systems have led to a significant depletion of livestock, which is critical for food access and income generation for many vulnerable families. The report emphasizes the necessity of emergency food production support, estimating that an investment of USD 350 per household could preserve a productive dairy cow, thereby maintaining an annual income of approximately USD 1,000. Immediate intervention is deemed essential to avert a deeper humanitarian crisis, as many households are at risk of permanently losing their essential productive assets.
