A recent study by the Mixed Migration Centre highlights the complex migration dynamics in Niger, revealing that a significant majority of respondents, 87%, initially intended to continue their journey beyond the country. However, half of those planning to move onward reported insufficient information regarding migration regulations at their intended destinations, which may lead to unsafe travel practices. After six months, a portion of the respondents had reached North Africa, with some continuing to Europe, while others opted to remain in Niger, reflecting shifting intentions influenced by economic aspirations and unresolved needs. The findings also indicate that while many respondents felt safer over time, experiences of abuse during their journeys prompted changes in their travel plans, including adopting protective measures and altering routes.
