A recent report by the Mixed Migration Centre highlights the significant refugee and migrant movements to Niger, revealing that Nigerians constitute over half of the surveyed population. The majority of these individuals originate from Borno and Kano states, with economic aspirations being the primary motivation for migration, cited by 93% of respondents. Violence, insecurity, and conflict are also critical factors, particularly for those from Borno, where 90% of migrants indicated these issues influenced their decisions. The report notes that while many Nigerians attempt alternative migration routes before departing, the journey to Niger is often swift, with 65% completing it in three days or less, and the majority starting from neighboring countries.
