The Nigerian Citizens Association South Africa (NICASA) has reported that numerous Nigerians are currently stranded in South Africa due to delayed flights amid ongoing xenophobic attacks. Many of these individuals have expressed a desire to return to Nigeria but are facing significant difficulties as they await evacuation. In response to the situation, the Federal Government announced on June 7, 2026, that it would arrange for five chartered flights to facilitate the return of affected citizens.
