The Supreme Court has upheld a previous ruling by the Court of Appeal in Asaba, which found the Nigeria Police Force liable for infringing on the fundamental rights of 14 residents in Delta State. The court dismissed the appeals, identified as SC/CV/833/2024 and SC/CV/834/2024, filed by the Commissioner of Police and the Assistant Commissioner of Police in Delta State. As a result, the Supreme Court confirmed the award of N10 million in damages to the affected residents. This decision reinforces the judiciary's stance on the protection of individual rights against unlawful actions by law enforcement agencies.
