Farmers in Nigeria have expressed their readiness to engage in agricultural activities as the 2026 planting season approaches; however, they are being hindered by insecurity in their regions. Reports indicate that over 200 farmers have been abducted in Kaduna alone, highlighting the severe impact of banditry on farming operations. The insecurity is prevalent across major agricultural communities, particularly in the North-West and North-East, raising significant concerns regarding the country's food security. The Agricultural Farmers Association of Nigeria (AFAN) has called attention to these challenges, emphasizing the urgent need for improved safety measures to enable farmers to return to their farmlands.
