In recent times the judiciary has come under the withering criticism of those who are unhappy with it over certain decisions taken in certain courts. They seem happy to subject the judiciary as a whole to a battering ram on a number of issues that have been handled by a few courts. Such issues include the trial of Mr Nasir El-Rufai, former Governor of Kaduna State over the alleged wire-tapping of the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu’s telephone. Another issue has to do with the de-registration order of one or two parties as declared by a court. A third issue has to do with the recognition or non-recognition of one or two factions of the fragmented parties. On the El-Rufai affair, some politicians have queried why he is in detention, why he was denied bail or why the bail conditions are allegedly stringent, too stringent to be easily met. That, to me, is a matter between the lawyers on both sides and the judge because the rest of us are not in full possession of the facts.
