The eighth Situation Report provides an update on the impact of the 24 June earthquakes in the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela and summarizes IOM’s ongoing and planned response in support of affected populations and national efforts as of 7 July. The second page of the report also includes key funding priorities to sustain and scale up urgent assistance. Highlights Official figures report 3,685 fatalities, 16,740 injuries, 6,462 people rescued and 17,907 people without housing following the 24 June earthquakes. A total of 856 buildings have also been reported as affected, including 190 total collapses. A total of 87 transitory camps have been reported, with installed capacity for 20,227 people and 14,634 people currently accommodated. IOM continues supporting shelter, coordination and management of transitory camps, registration, WASH, health and MHPSS, protection, community engagement, information management and inter-agency coordination. To date, IOM has reached 3,638 unique individuals with 6,253 assistance and distribution activities, mainly in health, CCCM/shelter and protection. Urgent additional support is required to improve conditions in transitory camps, expand access to safe water and sanitation, strengthen registration and referrals, and address protection and public health risks. IOM activities IOM continues supporting the coordination and management of key transitory camps in La Guaira, including Polideportivo José María Vargas, Estadio César Nieves and Playa Grande. Support focused on site management, registration, community engagement, service coordination, basic assistance, connectivity, protection and the distribution of essential items. At Estadio César Nieves, the delivery of non-food items to 500 families was confirmed, including buckets, plastic sheeting and kitchen sets. At Polideportivo José María Vargas, which hosts approximately 460 families, IOM supported meetings with community leaders, institutional visits, partial systematization of the community census and protection actions with the Ombudsperson’s Office, Civil Registry and SAIME. A total of 192 consultations were also provided during a health outreach session. Cumulative health assistance represents the largest sectoral volume of IOM’s response, with 3,318 registered assistance activities. IOM continues supporting the registration of displaced families, the mapping of transitory camps and site assessments to inform operational planning. IOM also strengthened protection, community engagement, safe referrals, initial case support and inter-agency coordination, including the placement of information materials in key areas of the camps. IOM planned response IOM will continue prioritizing temporary shelter, site coordination and management, WASH, health and MHPSS, protection, registration, data and needs assessments. Planned actions include improving shelter conditions through tents, bunk beds, safe covered spaces and site planning; expanding access to safe water, sanitation and hygiene; strengthening medical and psychosocial services; and continuing protection referrals, accountability and risk mitigation for violence against women. Additional funding would allow IOM to scale up emergency shelter, essential items, WASH, protection, health and mental health services, while strengthening registration, information management, mobility monitoring and coordination in transitory camps and affected communities.
