Description Following the widespread flooding reported across several provinces after Typhoon Maysak's passage, heavy and persistent rainfall continued to affect parts of the Lao PDR on 7–8 July 2026. According to the latest forecast from the Department of Meteorology and Hydrology (DMH), unstable weather conditions are expected to persist across multiple provinces, with rainfall probabilities ranging from approximately 25 to 65 per cent. Areas with higher rainfall probabilities remain at risk of continued flooding, flash floods and localised landslides. As of 7–8 July 2026, flooding has significantly affected Kounkham and Nakai districts in Khammouane Province in central Lao PDR. Rising water levels have inundated residential areas, agricultural land and key transportation routes. The Kounkham–Kong Lor road section between Nakham and Nakang villages has been submerged and is impassable to all vehicles. Floodwaters have entered houses in Nakang, Kaeng, and Muang Namsang villages, while agricultural land and rice fields have also been inundated, threatening livelihoods and food production. Flooding has also isolated several communities. Road access to Nong Hang Kao village has been completely cut off. In Natan village, Nakai District, water levels continued to rise on 8 July, reaching levels close to the second floors of residential houses in several locations. Residents have begun relocating livestock and valuable household belongings to safer areas using motorized boats as floodwaters continue to rise. In addition to flooding, a landslide occurred on the morning of 8 July along National Road 8A between Phou Pha Man and Khoun Ngeun villages in Kounkham District, temporarily blocking traffic and further disrupting transportation. Authorities continue to monitor the situation closely as rainfall is forecast to continue, increasing the risk of additional flooding and landslides. At the time of reporting, no casualties have been officially reported, while damage assessments remain ongoing. Request For Assistance Government Requests International Assistance: No NS Requests International Assistance: No Information Bulletin Published No Actions taken by National Society General Damage/Needs assessment Other Summary Lao Red Cross (LRC) continues to closely monitor the evolving flood situation in Khammouane Province through its headquarters and provincial branches, maintaining coordination with provincial and district authorities, disaster management committees and other relevant stakeholders. The National Society is conducting continuous monitoring and assessments of affected communities, identifying emerging humanitarian needs and monitoring access constraints caused by flooding and landslides. LRC remains prepared to support evacuation efforts, relief distributions and other emergency response activities should conditions deteriorate. The National Society is also disseminating safety information and public awareness messages to vulnerable communities in flood-prone areas. Actions taken by Federation Summary IFRC continues to monitor the evolving flood situation in close coordination with LRC and remains ready to provide technical and operational support should humanitarian needs increase or additional assistance be requested. Actions taken by others The Government of Lao PDR, through district authorities in Kounkham and relevant disaster management committees, has continued to monitor the evolving flood situation and conduct field assessments in affected communities. Local authorities have deployed technical teams to monitor flood levels in high-risk areas and instructed village authorities to maintain 24-hour surveillance. Preparations are underway for the possible evacuation of residents should water levels continue to rise, while district-owned motorised boats and emergency equipment have been positioned to support evacuation and rescue operations if required. Authorities have also issued travel advisories warning the public to avoid flooded roads and the landslide-affected section of National Road 8A. Government agencies remain on high alert as continued rainfall is forecast across the province.
