Gombe State Governor, Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, on Saturday swore in 23 commissioners alongside special advisers and permanent secretaries. The governor charged the new appointees to immediately settle into their responsibilities and deliver results as his administration enters its final year in office. Speaking during the swearing-in ceremony in Gombe, Yahaya said there was no time for learning or institutional orientation, urging the officials to hit the ground running in implementing government policies and programmes across the state’s 23 ministries. “We are entering an election season. You have less than a year to make your mark. There is absolutely no time for learning or institutional orientation; you need to hit the ground running immediately,” the governor said. The governor also charged the newly sworn-in special advisers to provide innovative and strategic counsel capable of accelerating government policies and programmes, while urging permanent secretaries to strengthen administrative efficiency, uphold transparency and eliminate bureaucratic bottlenecks. He commended the Gombe State House of Assembly for the prompt screening and confirmation of the commissioner nominees, describing the cordial relationship between the executive and legislature over the past seven years as instrumental to the state’s development. The governor subsequently assigned portfolios to the 23 commissioners. They are Abdulkadir Mohammed Waziri (Agriculture and Food Security); Micah Sunday Hamman (Budget and Economic Planning); Prof. Aishatu Umaru Maigari (Education); Sanusi Ahmad Pindiga (Energy and Mineral Resources); Yusuf K. Jalingo (Environment and Forest Resources) and Muhammad Gambo Magaji (Finance and Economic Development). Others are Prof. Danladi Adamu Bojude (Health); Mohammed Saidu Mohammed (Housing and Urban Development); Aishatu Mohammed Bose Ahmed (Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction); Moses Kyari Bolda (Information, Strategy and Culture); Adamu Dishi Kupto (Internal Security and Home Affairs); Zubairu Muhammad Umar, Esq. (Justice); Ibrahim Shehu Turaki (Land and Physical Planning); Salihu Baba Alkali (Livestock Development); Sani Ahmad Haruna, Esq. (Local Government and Community Development); L.D. Faruk, Esq. (Rural Development and Cooperatives); Dr. Habu Dahiru (Science, Technology and Innovation). Shehu Yerima Abdullahi will oversee Special Duties and Regional Integration, Nasir Mohammed Aliyu (Trade, Industry and Tourism); Engr. Bala Adams (Water Resources); Dr. Bertha Danja (Women Affairs and Social Development); Dr. Usman Maijama’a Kallamu (Works and Infrastructure); and Yusuf Abdu Kwadon, Esq. (Youth and Sports Development). He wished the new appointees success in office and urged them to work with dedication and integrity to consolidate the gains of his administration and leave behind a lasting legacy of development in the state.
