Operatives of the Anti-Kidnapping Unit of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command have arrested a suspect, Umaru Danda, for allegedly supplying illegal drugs and other logistics to kidnappers operating in Abuja. The FCT Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Mohammed Sanusi, disclosed this during a press briefing at the command headquarters in Abuja on Monday. He said the arrest followed investigations into the kidnapping incident that occurred at Yellow House in the Mpape area of the FCT on July 8, 2026. Acting on intelligence, operatives of the command’s Anti-Kidnapping Unit tracked and arrested the suspect. According to the commissioner, investigations revealed that the kidnappers responsible for the Mpape abduction relied on a steady supply of illicit drugs and logistics allegedly provided by Danda to sustain their criminal activities. He said Danda, a native of Zamfara State who resides in Gadabiu village, Niger State, was arrested on July 10, 2026. According to him, the suspect was identified during the investigation as a major supplier of hard drugs, logistics and other illicit substances to the kidnappers who attacked the Yellow House area of Mpape. “Following his arrest, Umaru Danda led our men to three separate hideouts used by the kidnapping gang in Niger State, where several exhibits were recovered,” he said. Sanusi said the exhibits recovered included 25 cards of 225mg tramadol, two wraps of a white substance suspected to be cocaine, a 500mg pack of cannabis pills, dried substances suspected to be cannabis sativa, 30 cards of 100mg tramadol, and two bottles containing 500 tablets each of Embazol. He added that two black bags containing dried leaves suspected to be cannabis sativa, a digital scale, two earpods, two ATM cards, two bags, a cash sum of N250,000, and an AK-47 rifle were also recovered. The commissioner said the suspect and the exhibits remain in police custody and will be charged in court upon the conclusion of investigations. In a related development, Sanusi said operatives of the command’s Anti-Kidnapping Unit rescued a kidnapped victim in the Karshi area of the FCT.
