The Senior Special Assistant on Media to the Secretary to the Zamfara State Government (SSG), Suleman Ahmad Tudu, has said reforms introduced by Governor Dauda Lawal’s administration have restored investors’ confidence in the state, leading to the establishment of a $200 million lithium mining and processing plant. Tudu, in an article titled “How Governor Lawal Wins Back Investor Confidence for Zamfara,” said the state had struggled for years to attract major foreign investments despite its agricultural and solid mineral potential due to insecurity and an unfavourable investment climate. He said the situation changed following policies aimed at improving security, regulating mining activities and creating a conducive environment for investors. According to him, the recently inaugurated $200 million Zamfara Lithium Mining and Processing Plant in Boko Village, Zurmi Local Government Area, is a product of the reforms and the state’s investment drive. Tudu recalled that the state government introduced an Executive Order on mining consent in January 2024 to regulate mining activities and curb abuses associated with informal mining. He also listed the establishment of the Zamfara State Security Trust Fund, the creation of Community Protection Guards, mobilisation of local hunters into a hybrid security outfit and procurement of security equipment as measures that improved security across the state. He added that investments in infrastructure, including an international airport and road projects, as well as Zamfara’s participation at the 2026 Mining Indaba in Cape Town, South Africa, also boosted investor confidence. According to him, the lithium project is expected to create about 2,000 jobs, increase government revenue and contribute to economic diversification.
