Troops have foiled a Boko Haram/ISWAP mission to extort money from communities in Yobe State and arrested suspected terrorist logistics suppliers in Kebbi. The operations were carried out by troops of Operation HADIN KAI and Operation FANSAN YAMMA as part of ongoing military offensives against terrorists in the North-East and North-West. The Acting Military Information Officer of Operation HADIN KAI, Captain Mohammed Goni, said troops of Sector 2, operating from the Forward Operating Base (FOB) Bukarti in conjunction with the 27 Task Force Brigade, acted on intelligence that suspected Boko Haram/ISWAP terrorists were moving in two Volkswagen Golf cars and on motorcycles to collect illegal levies from communities in Yobe. He said the troops intercepted the suspects along the Paya Kafiya axis on July 19 and engaged them in a gun battle. According to him, one terrorist was killed after troops disabled one of the vehicles, while four others fled into the bush with gunshot wounds. Troops later recovered the abandoned vehicle, 25 rounds of belted PKT ammunition, a loaded AK-47 magazine, 15 empty PKT ammunition cases, assorted drugs and mechanical tools believed to support terrorist operations. Meanwhile, the Media Information Officer of Operation FANSAN YAMMA, Lieutenant Colonel Aliyu Danja, said troops foiled a kidnap attempt in Shiyan Abiyola community of Kaura Namoda Local Government Area of Zamfara State after responding to a distress call. The attackers fled, leaving the victims unharmed. He said troops also rescued three kidnapped victims in Faskari Local Government Area of Katsina State after they escaped from a terrorist hideout during a heavy downpour while their captors slept. In Kebbi State, troops intercepted a vehicle carrying 10 motorcycles suspected to be for terrorists and arrested five suspects, including four alleged receivers of the motorcycles. The military urged residents to continue providing credible information to support ongoing operations against terrorist groups.
