The Federal Government has begun accepting applications for its Credit for Laptops, Internet, Connectivity and Knowledge Digital Devices (C.L.I.C.K.D.) Programme, giving eligible Nigerians the opportunity to obtain smartphones, laptops and tablets through consumer credit. The initiative is being implemented by the Nigerian Consumer Credit Corporation (CREDICORP) in partnership with the Federal Ministry of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy. It is designed to improve access to digital devices while encouraging the use of locally assembled products. For the current pilot phase, applicants must satisfy several requirements before they can be considered for the scheme. 1. State of residence is required Applicants must indicate the state where they currently live by selecting from Nigeria’s 36 states or the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). The information will be used to profile applicants and manage the programme nationwide. 2. Employment details must be provided The application requires applicants to state their current employment status. The available categories include: Salary earner Freelancer or self-employed Business owner Student Job seeker National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member Applicants may also disclose their monthly income, although this section is optional. Income brackets range from below N100,000 to more than N1 million. 3. Applicants must be part of an eligible digital skills programme The first phase of the initiative is currently limited to participants in the Federal Government’s Three Million Technical Talent (3MTT) programme. However, the application portal also lists several other digital training programmes, including: Andela Learning Community Learn2Earn ALX HNG Internship AltSchool Africa Genesys Tech Hub Their inclusion suggests the programme could be expanded to participants from these organisations in future phases. 4. Applicants must choose a device and explain its intended use Those applying must indicate whether they are requesting a smartphone, laptop or tablet. They are also required to explain how the device will be used. The available options include: Learning and professional certifications Remote work Freelancing Software development Business expansion Content creation School and other educational purposes Applicants can select multiple reasons where applicable. 5. Applicants must agree to verification Before submitting the application, applicants must confirm that the information they have supplied is accurate. They must also consent to being contacted about their application and authorise CREDICORP and its partners to verify the submitted information to determine their eligibility for the credit facility. 6. Applicants must indicate how they heard about the programme As part of the application process, applicants are required to state how they became aware of the C.L.I.C.K.D. Programme.
