Zamfara Enforces Ban On Makeshift Shops, Hawking In Schools

The Zamfara State Ministry of Education, Science and Technology has prohibited all forms of trading, hawking, and other unauthorized commercial activities within public school premises, including makeshift shops, kiosks, and temporary stalls located adjacent to school compounds. This was revealed in a circular addressed to the general public, particularly school administrators, parents and guardians, traders, and residents living around public schools, that the Zamfara State Government has To ensure full compliance with this directive, the ministry said it established a Committee on the Prohibition of Trading and Unauthorized Commercial Activities Within and Around Public School Premises. The circular, signed by Lawal Mukhtar, the committee secretary, mandated the committee to monitor and enforce compliance with the Government’s directive across all public schools in the state. It said it will identify and stop all unauthorised trading and commercial activities, conduct public sensitisation, work closely with security agencies and other relevant stakeholders, recommend appropriate sanctions against violators, and submit regular compliance reports to the ministry. These measures, it said, are aimed at ensuring that schools remain safe, orderly, secure, and conducive environments for effective teaching and learning. The ministry urged all stakeholders to cooperate fully with the committee in the interest of protecting our children and promoting a safe learning environment. It said members of the public were advised that anyone found engaging in unauthorized trading or commercial activities within or around public school premises, including makeshift shops and kiosks adjoining schools, will be dealt with in accordance with the law.
