All of these metrics have been reported by Samsung. While our team briefly interacted with the Ultra 2 in person, we have yet to put it through our rigorous testing process.Longer battery life: The Ultra 2 features an 800 mAh battery, a 35% increase in capacity over the previous Ultra model. The watch was rated for up to 60 hours of use (AOD On) on a single charge.Slimmer design: Despite the larger battery, the watch has an overall thinner, redesigned profile (12% thinner compared to the last generation), adding to its sleek ability to transition from outdoor exercise to everyday wear. The new bands are also lighter, offering a more breathable and comfortable fit.Performance: The watch is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon Wear Elite (replacing Exynos), enhancing power, speed, and GPS tracking. This display is also ultra-bright, with an unparalleled 5,000 nits (maximum).Trail Run: The new Trail Run feature can help outdoor adventurers, including ultra runners, better track their progress, terrain, and elevation.Nutrition Alert: A new addition to the sweat loss feature can help estimate hydration needs throughout a workout. The takeaway: I'm a runner and fitness tech enthusiast (Garmin is my current go-to), and battery life and GPS tracking capabilities are the name of the game. None of the flashy extra perks matter without these fundamental features, especially for those embarking on lengthy and potentially remote outdoor adventures.Given that, I'm intrigued by the advancements in battery life, which would push the Galaxy Watch Ultra 2 ahead of the newest Apple Watch Ultra 3. That said, I'm still curious how this will stack up against some of Garmin's advanced models.The dive function is also pretty cool and definitely unique. Depending on how it compares to Apple's diving features, it could be the smartwatch of choice for serious divers. I'm not sure how helpful this will be for the everyday user, or even triathletes (where the swimming portion of a race is horizontal and doesn't involve diving), but it's still a fun perk.
