President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has urged leaders of the North East to sustain collaboration with the federal government, saying joint efforts can end terrorism and banditry in the region. Speaking on Thursday at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, while receiving governors and prominent leaders from the region, Tinubu said his administration remained committed to improving security and infrastructure. The delegation was at the Villa to thank the president for retaining Vice President Kashim Shettima as his running mate for the 2027 presidential election and pledged to deliver the North East for the APC. Those present included Borno State Governor Babagana Zulum, Yobe State Governor Mai Mala Buni, Gombe State Governor Inuwa Yahaya, Adamawa Deputy Governor Kaletapwa Farauta, the Shehu of Borno, Alhaji Abubakar Ibn Umar Garbai El-Kanemi, Ambassador Baba Gana Kingibe, former Senate President Ahmad Lawan and former Speaker Yakubu Dogara. Describing the endorsement as reassuring, Tinubu said his administration had fulfilled key promises to the region, especially in road construction and security. “I have seen the challenges posed by terrorism and banditry, but I have also seen what our collaboration can achieve. Only by standing together can we overcome these challenges as one united nation,” he said. Speaking for the delegation, Zulum said the visit was to appreciate Tinubu for re-nominating Shettima, describing the decision as a demonstration of confidence in the North East and recognition of loyalty, competence and dedicated service. He said the move had further strengthened the region’s confidence in the administration.
