The National Chairman of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, has called on opposition leaders to move beyond constant criticism and instead present practical, well-articulated alternative solutions to tackle Nigeria’s economic challenges. Yilwatda made the call in a statement released on Thursday by his Special Adviser on Media and Information Strategy, Abimbola Tooki, following the 10th National Assembly Award Dinner Ceremony held in Abuja. Speaking through his representative, Daniel Rejenieju, the APC chairman urged opposition politicians to stop merely condemning government policies and contribute constructively to national development. Defending the current administration’s stance, Yilwatda described the removal of the fuel subsidy by President Bola Tinubu as an “inevitable and necessary decision” required to save the nation from imminent fiscal collapse. He argued that the previous subsidy regime was an unsustainable drain on public funds that enriched a privileged few while starving the country of resources needed for critical infrastructure and social development. Addressing the current economic pressures faced by citizens, the APC chairman urged Nigerians to remain steadfast and patient, noting that courage in leadership involves taking tough, unpopular decisions for the greater good. “Current economic difficulties represent the short-term consequences of reforms designed to correct years of structural distortions,” Yilwatda stated, adding that President Tinubu had demonstrated the political will that previous administrations lacked.
