A suspected vandal has been found dead under a collapsed transmission tower along the 330kV Ughelli-Benin transmission line in Delta State. The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) disclosed this in a statement issued on Saturday by its General Manager, Public Relations, Ndidi Mbah. According to the statement, the corpse was discovered during an intensive patrol by TCN’s Delta Sub-Region, Lines Maintenance Department (LMD), following the tripping of the Ughelli-Benin 330kV transmission line. Mbah said the patrol team traced the fault to Tower 101, which had collapsed. The tower was still standing as at the time of this report,” the statement said. TCN condemned the vandalism and urged the host communities and members of the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities around power installations to security agencies and the nearest TCN offices. The company said the fight against the vandalism of power infrastructure required the cooperation of all stakeholders. “This incident is a tragic reminder of the extreme dangers of tampering with power infrastructure. Vandalism not only leads to power outages and damage to national assets, it also endangers lives. Protecting power infrastructure is a civic responsibility. Stop the vandals, or they will stop power for us all,” TCN said.
