The Kwara State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has dissolved all its caucuses across the 16 local government areas of the state. This is coming days after party stakeholders mandated former Senate President, Dr Abubakar Bukola Saraki, to engage members of the APC’s G15 and other political parties ahead of the 2027 general elections. The developments have heightened speculation that the PDP is working towards a broader political realignment with aggrieved APC leaders in Kwara, particularly members of the G15, ahead of the 2027 general elections. While the mandate to Saraki followed a two-day stakeholders’ meeting held at his GRA residence in Ilorin weekend, the dissolution of the caucuses was announced by the party three days later. The latest decision was contained in a statement issued on Sunday by the PDP State Publicity Secretary, Olusegun Olusola Adewara. According to him, the dissolution formed part of resolutions reached by the State Executive Committee (SEC) and other critical stakeholders during their meeting with Saraki. The development followed the stakeholders charge to Saraki to discuss with members of the APC G15 and other political parties in a bid to strengthen the PDP and expand its political base. The communiqué issued after the meeting said the stakeholders unanimously mandated Saraki to proceed with the engagements, while also urging party members to subordinate individual ambitions to the collective interest of the PDP. The stakeholders had argued that unity, sacrifice and collective commitment would be essential to securing the party’s victory in 2027, particularly if the proposed admission of members of the APC G15 into the PDP eventually materialised. Against that backdrop, the dissolution of the existing caucuses represents a fresh step by the party as it prepares to reshape its machinery for the next electoral contest. Adewara said the party considered it necessary to “refresh its structures, bring in new hands, broaden participation and create a more effective and inclusive political machinery” capable of delivering victory for the PDP at all levels. He said the journey towards 2027 had effectively commenced, adding that the reorganisation was being undertaken in line with the powers vested in the SEC to strengthen and reposition the party. He urged party members to remain calm, united and committed, saying mechanisms for the recruitment, constitution and inauguration of new caucuses across the state were already being put in place.
