Bandits have abducted a 90-year-old village head, Mallam Abubakar Lafiya, in Ka’ada, Dekara District of Borgu Local Government Area of Niger State. Daily Trust gathered that the bandits stormed his residence at about 6pm on Saturday and whisked him away after firing several shots. A resident, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the victim was the biological father of the current District Head of Dekara. “The abduction has caused concern among us in Ka’ada, Dekara and surrounding communities, particularly because of the victim’s advanced age. The village head is 90 years old now,” he said. He described the incident as distressing, saying residents were praying for the safe return of the elderly community leader. Residents have also called for urgent action by the security agencies to ensure his safety and secure his release. Efforts to obtain the reaction of the police were unsuccessful as the phone number of the Niger State Police Command’s spokesperson could not be reached as of press time.
