The Kano State Police Command has arrested two suspected tricycle thieves and recovered four stolen tricycles through sustained intelligence-led operations and inter-state collaboration. The Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, said the suspects were arrested following a report lodged at the Bompai Police Division by a resident of Hotoro Danmarke, Abubakar Ali. According to him, Ali reported that while riding his tricycle and looking for passengers along Hadejia Road, he picked up a 23-year-old passenger, Muhammad Sani of Brigade Quarters, at Sufi Mart. Kiyawa said the passenger, who had bandages on his hand and leg, pretended to be injured and in distress before deceiving the tricycle rider into buying some items for him at a supermarket. He said while the rider was away, the suspect allegedly used another key to start the tricycle and drove away with it. The police spokesman said operatives attached to the Bompai Police Division immediately alerted neighbouring police divisions, leading to the suspect’s interception and arrest by a patrol team from the Bichi Police Division. He added that sustained investigation and follow-up operations led police operatives to Katsina State, where a 33-year-old alleged member of the syndicate, Aminu Sa’ad, was arrested. Kiyawa said four stolen tricycles were recovered from the suspect during the operation. He explained that the recovered tricycles had earlier been reported stolen through the same modus operandi, adding that the suspect confessed to being a member of the syndicate.l According to him, the four recovered tricycles had since been handed over to their rightful owners, while investigation continued to apprehend other members of the syndicate. Police recover suspected stolen vehicle Similarly, the Kano State Police Command has arrested a suspected motor vehicle thief and recovered a suspected stolen vehicle. Kiyawa said surveillance operatives of the command’s Anti-Kidnapping Squad (AKS), acting on credible intelligence, arrested 23-year-old Isah Yusuf, a resident of Titin Jajira, Rijiyar Lemo. He said the suspect was found in possession of a maroon Pontiac motor vehicle suspected to have been stolen and without a registration number. According to the police spokesman, the suspect claimed to have purchased the vehicle from the Republic of Niger through one Ashiru Mohammed. However, investigation reportedly revealed that the vehicle was originally stolen from Taraba State and taken to the Republic of Niger, where it was sold to a dealer before being resold and brought back to Kano. The Commissioner of Police in Kano State, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, urged the rightful owner of the maroon Pontiac to come forward with proof of ownership. Bakori said the breakthroughs were in line with the command’s proactive policing strategy and sustained efforts to prevent crime. He assured the public of the command’s commitment to intelligence-driven operations under the leadership of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Tunji Disu.
