Mother, Two Children Killed in Kaduna Building Collapse

A woman, her five-year-old son and a three-month-old baby have been killed after a building under construction collapsed on their residence in Dan Mani Community of Rigasa District, Kaduna State. The incident occurred at about 3:30am on Friday morning at the Abuja Road, Kwanar Mai Dabino area of Rigasa. The woman’s husband, Abubakar Abba Haruna, said he was not at home when the incident happened, as he had spent the night at his other wife’s residence. He said his eldest daughter woke him up by knocking on the door and informing him that the building had collapsed on their mother. According to him, when he arrived at the scene, neighbours were already making efforts to rescue the victims from the rubble. He, however, said the victims had already died by the time they were brought out. “None of them had any sign of injury because the building collapsed on them,” he said. Haruna identified his deceased wife as Takiyatu, 35, while their two children were Salisu, five, and Muhammad, who was only three months old. He described the incident as a painful test from God, saying the family could only accept what had happened and pray for the souls of the deceased. “What happened is from Allah, so there is nothing I can do except pray for them. May Allah have mercy on her and the children. It is a test that Allah has brought upon us. We can only be patient.” he said Also confirming the incident, the community leader of Abuja Road, Kwanar Mai Dabino area of Rigasa, Sani Ayuba, said residents were saddened by the tragedy. Ayuba said a a fence from a  neighbouring structure under construction collapsed into the house where the woman and her children were sleeping and trapping them underneath. He said neighbours immediately attempted to rescue the victims after the collapse. “Neighbours tried to bring them out, but unfortunately, they couldn’t be rescued alive,” he said. Ayuba added that security agencies had been informed about the incident. He prayed for Allah to forgive and grant eternal rest to those who lost their lives in the building collapse.
