Police rescue 9 kidnap victims in Kogi, Edo

The Kogi State Commissioner of Police, CP Naziru Bello Kankarofi, says a joint operation involving Kogi and Edo police commands on 11th August has led to the rescue of nine abducted victims at the boundary corridor of both states. The commissioner disclosed this to newsmen on Friday while conducting what he described as a “joint handshake patrol” at Aguda Village, along the Okene–Auchi Expressway, at the Kogi–Edo State boundary. CP Kankarofi added that the ongoing joint clearance operations along the corridor, which have been ongoing for seven (7) days, led to the rescue of the kidnapped victims in the bush of Mameramo–Adomu settlement along Okene -Auchi road. “The victims were rescued through an intelligence-led operation involving the Nigeria Police Force, Nigerian Army, Nigerian Navy Ship (NNS) Lugard, DSS, NSCDC, local vigilantes and other auxiliary security forces from both Kogi and Edo States. FG: Community participation critical to ending insecurity Kurfi’s trial stalled over late submission of exhibits “The victims were safely evacuated, debriefed and reunited with their families,” he said in a statement signed by the ASP Saliu Oyiza Afusat, the command’s spokesperson. CP Kankarofi stressed that the ongoing clearance operations along the corridor, which is seven days old, is to afford both Commissioners assess the operational deployments, vulnerable routes and the readiness of personnel from both commands and other security agencies. He further added that the assessment is expected to further strengthen operational planning, intelligence sharing and coordinated response along the border corridor. “The joint engagement is aimed at denying criminal elements access to safe havens, preventing criminals from exploiting the boundaries between both States, and ensuring the safety of residents, travellers and other road users along the Okene–Auchi corridor,” he said.
