A 19-year-old newlywed, Aisha Musa, has allegedly poisoned her husband by introducing a suspected dangerous substance into his meal in Gwamna village, Bauchi Local Government Area of Bauchi State. Weekend Trust learnt that the incident happened 40 days after the couple were joined in marriage. The husband reportedly ate the meal before falling ill and was subsequently rushed to the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital (ATBU Teaching Hospital), Bauchi, where he is currently receiving attention. The Bauchi State police command said it had arrested the suspect in connection with the incident. The command’s public relations officer, SP Nafiu Habib, who disclosed this in a statement, said the incident occurred on August 12, 2026, at 3:15pm following a distress call from an anonymous woman residing in the Wunti Dada area of Bauchi. According to him, operatives of the ‘C’ Division, Tafawa Balewa Estate, immediately mobilised to the scene, evacuated the victim and rushed him to the teaching hospital, where he was said to be in stable condition. Habib said the suspect was also promptly apprehended, and during interrogation, voluntarily made a confessional statement admitting to the alleged offence. “In addition, an empty bottle suspected to contain poison and remnants of the food were recovered and duly registered as exhibits,” he said. Meanwhile, Commissioner of Police Sani-Omolori Aliyu has directed that the case be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for discreet and thorough investigation. The police spokesman said the suspect would be charged to court upon completion of investigation.
