Adamawa State Deputy Governor, Prof. Kaletapwa Farauta, has expressed appreciation to Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri for his commitment to promoting women’s inclusion and participation in leadership and governance in the state. Farauta spoke on Friday when members of the Association of Former Local Government Vice Chairmen of Nigeria paid her a courtesy visit at her office in Yola. She described loyalty and dedication to service as essential ingredients for success in any endeavour, urging the former vice chairpersons to remain united and committed to the progress of the state. The deputy governor said her advocacy was instrumental to the appointment of women as vice chairpersons across the 21 local government areas of the state. “When my principal, Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, brought me on board as his deputy, I made sure I appealed for women to be appointed as vice chairpersons across the 21 LGAs,” she said. Farauta also commended those who were re-elected for a second term for extending what she described as the “hands of sisterhood” to their colleagues who were not re-elected. She urged the former vice chairpersons to remain united as “one big family” and ensure that every member was carried along in their collective efforts to improve their livelihoods and contribute meaningfully to society. The deputy governor also cautioned them against engaging in anti-party activities as the 2027 general elections approach, stressing the need for loyalty, unity and commitment to the political platform. Speaking on behalf of the group, Mrs. Sara Samuel, former Vice Chairperson of Yola North Local Government Area, thanked the deputy governor for her support and commitment to women’s advancement in politics. She said their appointments provided them with valuable leadership experience, describing the opportunity as a platform that exposed them to leadership, governance and various skills that have helped them improve the welfare of their families. It would be recalled that Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri has, since assuming office, pursued policies aimed at increasing women’s participation in governance and decision-making across Adamawa State. His administration’s approach has included the appointment of women to key political and administrative positions, with the broader objective of strengthening women’s representation in leadership, promoting gender equality and empowering women to play greater roles in the political and socio-economic development of the state.
