The Zamfara State Government has commenced moves to address the non-payment of financial benefits attached to promotions earned by civil servants over the years. The Head of Service, Malam Yakubu Sani Haidara, inaugurated a 14-member committee to facilitate the implementation of financial benefits accruing to workers as a result of duly earned promotions. He also inaugurated an 11-member committee to ensure the effective redeployment of rationalised staff of the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology. Speaking during the inauguration of the committees in Gusau, Haidara said some civil servants had gone for nearly three decades without receiving the financial benefits attached to promotions they had earned. According to him, some workers had accumulated one, two or three promotions without corresponding financial benefits, a situation he said had negatively affected their welfare and morale. He said the committee on promotion benefits would ensure that eligible civil servants received their entitlements in line with the provisions of the Public Service Rules. The Head of Service said the move was part of the government’s efforts to improve workers’ welfare, motivation and productivity in the state civil service. He said addressing outstanding promotion benefits would boost the morale of civil servants and encourage greater commitment to their duties. Haidara also charged the committee on the redeployment of rationalised education ministry staff to ensure that the exercise was carried out effectively and in accordance with government policy. He said the state government remained committed to promoting the welfare of its workforce under Governor Dauda Lawal. The Head of Service thanked the governor for approving the establishment of the two committees, describing the decision as an important step towards addressing longstanding challenges affecting civil servants. The committees are expected to ensure that eligible workers receive their earned promotion benefits and that the redeployment of affected education ministry staff is effectively implemented.
