The Emir of Gwandu, Alhaji Muhammadu Iliyasu Bashar, has installed former Nigeria Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Prof. Tijjani Muhammad Bande, as the Baraden Besse, the District Head of Besse in Kebbi State. Bande, who also served as Director-General of the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS) and Vice-Chancellor of Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto, was installed at a ceremony held at the Abdullahi Fodio Palace in Birnin Kebbi at the weekend. The ceremony was attended by Governor Nasir Idris; former governor and Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, Atiku Bagudu; former governor and ambassador, Sa’idu Dakingari; and former governor and Senator representing Kebbi Central, Muhammad Adamu Aliero. Performing the turbaning ceremony, the Emir described Bande’s installation as a moment of joy for the people of the emirate, praising his humility and decision to return home to serve his people. “Professor Bande has humbled himself by coming back home and assuming leadership as a District Head,” the emir said. He said Bande had maintained close ties with his people and had never abandoned his roots. The emir also said the presence of three former governors at the ceremony demonstrated Governor Idris’ efforts to promote unity and cooperation in the state. In his response, Bande described his appointment as a responsibility of trust and pledged to justify the confidence reposed in him. He pledged loyalty and cooperation with Governor Idris, the Emir of Gwandu and the emirate council. Bande also promised to promote peace, security and development in communities under his jurisdiction. “I will offer the required assistance to all communities under my jurisdiction, facilitate the prevalence of peace and security, as well as support the governor in ensuring victory, success and triumph in the coming election,” he said.
