New details have emerged regarding how a former Director-General of the Department of State Services (DSS), Lawal Daura, was named the running mate to Governor Seyi Makinde, the presidential candidate of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM). It was gathered that Daura’s selection followed the resignation of Bala Adamu Ibrahim, the initial running mate, who stepped down from the ticket for personal reasons. Ibrahim formally communicated his decision in a letter titled, “Voluntary withdrawal from participation in the 2027 general election under the platform of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM).” The letter, dated August 5, was addressed to the party’s National Chairman. Party sources confirmed that following the resignation, Governor Makinde announced Daura as his new running mate during the party’s Elective National Convention held last Thursday in Bauchi. Ibrahim’s letter reads in part: “Having previously been nominated as the vice-presidential candidate under the platform of the Allied Peoples’ Movement (APM) in the forthcoming 2027 general election, I hereby formally notify the party of my voluntary withdrawal from the electoral process. “This decision has been made freely, voluntarily, and without any form of coercion, undue influence, or inducement from any person or group. Accordingly, I no longer wish to participate in the party’s nomination process or remain the vice-presidential candidate for the party. “I respectfully request that the party take note of my withdrawal and initiate all necessary administrative steps to remove my name from its records as a candidate for the election. Please find attached to this letter an affidavit sworn by me in compliance with the provisions of Section 31 of the Electoral Act, 2026.” Ibrahim expressed his appreciation to the party’s leadership and members for the opportunity and wished the APM success in the upcoming general elections.
