The Allied Peoples Movement (APM) has unveiled Dr. Lamela L. Silas as its governorship candidate and Alhaji Wadaji Umar Lawan as his running mate for the 2027 election in Gombe State. The emergence of the pair signals a shift in the state’s political landscape, as parties intensify efforts to solidify grassroots structures ahead of the 2027 polls. The APM stated that the candidates were selected based on their extensive experience in public administration, finance, agriculture, and youth mobilization. According to the party, Dr. Silas, an indigene of Kalorgu Ward in Kaltungo Local Government Area, brings a wealth of experience from various federal and state institutions. He began his public service career with the Gombe State Water Board, eventually rising to become the Director of Finance in the state’s Ministry of Finance. His career trajectory later took him to Abuja, where he served in the Office of the Accountant-General of the Federation, attaining the rank of Deputy Director. Silas also held senior roles as Deputy Director at the Federal Post Office, Jos; Deputy Director of Finance at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs; and Director of Finance at the Ministry of Niger Delta Affairs. His running mate, Lawan, hails from Jekadafari Ward in Gombe Local Government Area. He possesses a strong background in agricultural development and public service, having previously worked with HarvestPlus—an initiative under the International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA), Ibadan—where he contributed to programmes aimed at improving food and nutrition security through the promotion of biofortified crop varieties. Lawan also served as a Special Assistant to the Gombe State Governor before transitioning into full-time political and youth mobilization.
