The Kano State Government said it is currently implementing 1557 projects worth N996.29 billion across the state, with more than half already completed. The state’s Commissioner for Public Procurement, Projects Monitoring and Evaluation, Comrade Nura Ma’aji Sumaila stated this at a press briefing in Kano on Sunday. He said that the administration has recorded 1,557 classified projects, of which 867 (55.68%) are completed, while 654 (42%) are ongoing. Another 26 projects are at the award stage, with 10 more planned and ready for award, he added. He said the massive investment reflects Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s commitment to infrastructure renewal, rural development, and transparent governance. According to him, the cumulative contract sum stands at N996.29 billion, with N695.19 billion approved under the due-process framework and N444.74 billion vetted payments. “These figures demonstrate the significant scale of the current administration’s capital investment programmes and the level of financial oversight being applied,” Sumaila said. He explained that the projects are spread across all 44 local government areas, ensuring equitable distribution between metropolitan and rural communities. The eight metropolitan LGAs account for 598 projects worth N299.36 billion, while the 36 rural LGAs have 653 projects valued at N287.90 billion. In addition, cross-cutting projects spanning multiple LGAs amount to N159.50 billion, while statewide interventions total N249.54 billion. Among the strategic investments highlighted were the N113.19 billion mass-housing scheme in Dawakin Kudu, the N24.77 billion expansion of Katsina Road with pedestrian bridges, the N27.74 billion Madobi–Kiru road intervention, and the N22 billion Rural Model City housing project covering all rural LGAs. “Our responsibility is to ensure that every Naira committed to public development is subjected to appropriate procurement procedures, monitoring and accountability, and that projects ultimately deliver tangible value to the good people of Kano State,” he said. The commissioner assured development partners and the international community that the Yusuf administration is determined to strengthen transparency, monitor project delivery, and ensure value for money. He emphasised that the government is not pursuing isolated projects but rather investing in infrastructure networks whose benefits cut across multiple communities and LGAs. Projects such as inter-LGA roads, metropolitan corridors, solar-powered street lighting, and traffic management systems were cited as examples of interventions designed to improve connectivity and enhance economic activity across Kano State. The Commissioner however said all the projects are being implemented by the state’s consolidated revenue and that no money was borrowed to fund any of it. Sumaila reiterated the government’s commitment to transparency and accountability.
