The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps has charged private security agencies to provide intelligence to government security outfits in the fight against crime. The FCT Commandant of the Corps, Dr Olusola Odumosu, disclosed this at the Passing out Parade of the Refresher Training Course on Modern Security Management for 264 private guard operatives in the Federal Capital Territory. “Do not merely perform security duties as a routine job; understand the environment, know the vulnerabilities, observe changes, ask appropriate questions”, he said. Dr Odumosu told them to promptly report suspicious activities to government security agencies to nip crimes in the bud. “Report suspicious activities to us immediately and leave the rest to us; maintain proper records and, above all, never compromise your professional responsibilities for personal gains. “Professional security requires professional treatment of security personnel. I also encourage private security companies to strengthen their internal reporting mechanism and establish effective channels for communicating with relevant Security Agencies whenever circumstances demand,” he said. Dr Odumosu, while emphasising the importance of training and retraining to keep security operatives abreast of security threats and ways of tackling them, noted that the refresher training is significant, especially in teaching participants new techniques, refreshing existing knowledge, correcting outdated practices, introducing contemporary security approaches and preparing private guards to function effectively within Nigeria’s evolving security architecture. In a goodwill message, the Chairman, Association of Licensed Private Security Practitioners of Nigeria, FCT Zone, Chief Lucky Ojealaro, thanked the FCT Commandant for his visionary leadership and urged the participants to immediately apply the knowledge gained in their official functions.
