Scottish universities, like the University of Edinburgh, pictured here, are popular with American students.Aniruddha Chatterjee/Getty ImagesUS students are often drawn to UK universities due to their more focused degree programs.Americans can't get enough of Scotland, with the University of St. Andrews dominating the ranking.England's most prestigious and historic universities are also popular among Americans.Some American students are swapping Greek life and GPAs for cobblestone campuses and a degree across the pond.Awareness of the British university route is steadily rising, said Meredith Guthrie, lead consultant at Meritage Advisors, a consultancy that provides UK university admissions guidance for prospective American students."The application process for UK universities is seen as refreshingly transparent compared to the pressure cooker students go through for US colleges," Guthrie told Business Insider.College admissions in the UK are more interested in academic aptitude than in your personal journey or extracurriculars. The courses are also subject-specific, and many of them can be completed in three years, she added.The following ranking — which spotlights British schools with the most American students — has been compiled from data published by the UK Higher Education Statistics Agency. The data covers the 2024-25 academic year, across all levels of full-time study.It accounts for students with a permanent address in the US, rather than those with an American nationality. It also accounts for all higher education providers, not just universities.Here are the 10 British universities with the most American students.10. Royal Veterinary CollegeCourtesy of the Royal Veterinary CollegeNumber of US-domiciled, full-time students: 490Established in 1791, the Royal Veterinary College is a specialist vet school and a member institution of the University of London. It was ranked the best in the world for veterinary science by the QS World University Rankings.The RVC, whose royal patron is King Charles III, has one campus in London and another further in the Hertfordshire countryside.9.
