The Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) says 21 ships carrying petroleum products, food items, containers and other cargo are expected to berth at the Apapa, Lekki Deep Sea and Tin Can Island ports in Lagos between August 18 and August 25. The NPA disclosed this in its Daily Shipping Position released on Tuesday. According to the authority, five of the incoming vessels are expected to carry petrol, while six will arrive with containers containing various goods. The remaining 10 vessels will transport a range of cargo, including crude oil, aviation fuel, bulk pallets, bulk wheat, fresh fish and general cargo. The expected arrivals are set to add to the volume of cargo moving through Nigeria’s major maritime gateways, with petroleum products and essential food commodities accounting for a significant portion of the incoming consignments. Meanwhile, the NPA said 11 ships and tanker vessels had already arrived at the three Lagos ports and were waiting to berth. The vessels are expected to discharge commodities including bulk urea, petrol, aviation fuel, diesel, alkaline, bulk wheat and fertiliser. The authority also reported that 23 ships were currently discharging cargo at the Apapa, Lekki Deep Sea and Tin Can Island ports. The cargoes being discharged include bulk urea, aviation fuel, general cargo, crude palm oil, containers, diesel, petrol, bulk wheat and bulk gas. The latest shipping position highlights the continued flow of petroleum products, agricultural commodities, industrial inputs and consumer goods through Lagos ports. The arrival of additional vessels carrying petrol, wheat, fertiliser and other essential commodities could support domestic supply, while the movement of containers and industrial cargo is expected to sustain activity across the logistics and maritime value chain.
