Troops of the Joint Task Force North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have foiled separate attempts by terrorists to abduct civilians in Zamfara State, rescuing victims and neutralising an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) planted along a major road. The operations were carried out on Monday in Gurusu and Tsafe areas of the state, according to a statement by the Media Information Officer of the Joint Task Force, Lt. Col. Aliyu Danja. Danja said troops of Sector 2 responded to an abduction incident along the Gurusu–Anka Road on August 17, 2026, and pursued the terrorists until they abandoned their captives and fled. He said seven victims, comprising four women and three children, were rescued unharmed. In a separate incident in Tsafe Local Government Area, troops responded to reports of terrorists attempting to abduct motorists around Magazu village. The troops engaged the terrorists, forcing them to abandon their victims and escape into the surrounding bushes. The statement said some of the rescued victims sustained gunshot wounds during the attack and were evacuated to a medical facility for treatment. Earlier the same day, troops also responded to the discovery of an IED planted by terrorists along the Gurusu–Gwashi Road in Bukkuyum Local Government Area. According to the statement, troops immediately secured the area while an Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team successfully neutralised the device. The action, it said, prevented potential casualties among troops and civilian road users.
