Joslyn Kelly, owner of J's Breakfast Club in Gary, Indiana, reported losing $19,000 in sales after her restaurant was without power for eight days following a derecho storm on August 11. The outage caused a 90% loss in sales for her business. As of Thursday, over 57,000 utility customers in the area remained without power, according to Northern Indiana Public Service Co. Kelly described the storm's sudden onset and the immediate loss of electricity, which has severely impacted her operations.
