The Athena Centre for Policy and Leadership has warned that Nigeria's public finance system is more focused on tracking spending than on measuring results. In its latest report, the centre argues that the government needs to shift towards results-based accountability to ensure public funds improve citizens' lives. The report highlights that Nigeria's 2026 budget stands at N27.5 trillion, with a significant portion of revenue consumed by debt servicing. It calls for a more robust framework to evaluate the impact of public expenditure.
